The Progressive Democratic Patriots is a political party that was founded in 2015 by Mr. Watson Solomon Duke who is the political leader of the party. Mr. Duke who is also the President of the PSA recognized the necessity of the working class to have a voice in the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. While there have been other trade union leaders in the past who were affiliated to other political parties, very little was done to improve the lives of workers.
President Duke has spent the majority of his life in the pursuance of improving the lives of the workers he has represented for over a decade. As the leader of his own political organization he has championed successfully for real and tangible benefits for the members of the PSA.
Through his inspirational leadership, the PDP is now the third strongest political party in the country. In the most recent Tobago House of Assembly Elections held on 25th January 2021, the PDP were victorious in six (6) of the twelve (12) constituencies wrenching four (4) seats out of the grasp of the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) party. The PDP momentum continues to grow.
With the Mr. Watson Solomon Duke at the helm of both organizations, the PDP and the PSA are inextricably linked in the fabric of the politics of Trinidad and Tobago affording workers a seat in the nation’s highest boardroom, the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
